Documentation of the BASE-II Data
The BASE-II data are documented in a codebook. This is intended to be used as an instrument to assist researchers who would like to apply for the use of BASE-II data for a specific research project.
The codebook (with the original items partly in German) provides an overview of the variables available in BASE-II for which you can apply. To access the codebook please contact the members of the specific research units or the coordinator of the study (see contact details on the left).
Applying for the Use of BASE-II Data
You can apply for BASE-II data in the following way (Please find the documents in the box on the left):
- Application: The application comprises an abstract, a working plan, and the required variables. It is advisable to ensure that you contact and inform all project partners involved before you hand in the application form. The application is the basis for the contract and the BASE-II Steering Committee needs to agree on it. ([1] Application).
- Data protection policy: Because the BASE-II Data are not completely anonymized you need to deliver a data protection policy in which you describe the storing and usage of the data. It needs to be signed by the data protection officer of your research unit/institution. For advice you can contact the data protection coordinator of the Max Planck Institute for Human Development, Thomas Feg, who can check your protection statement beforehand. An information sheet on data protection is provided, which explains which information you need to include in a data protection policy ([2] Information sheet in data protection).
- Data protection statement: All users of BASE-II data have to send a signed data protection statement to us ([3] Data Protection Form).
- Contract: If all conditions are fullfilled a contract regarding the data transfer will be drawn up by BASE-II ([4] Data Transfer Contract).

For all publications it is necessary to include the following reference:
